Norwich City, Derby County play out draw

Norwich City and Derby County play out a 1-1 draw in Saturday afternoon's Championship clash at Carrow Road.

Norwich City have been held to a 1-1 draw by a resolute Derby County side in this afternoon's Championship clash at Carrow Road.

The first shot of the game fell to the hosts in the fourth minute, when Bradley Johnson's 25-yard effort flew wide of Lee Grant's goal.

Norwich continued to press forward and caused panic when Johnson's low ball across goal had to be hoofed clear by Jamie Ward, while Alexander Tettey fired wide just before the quarter-hour mark.

The Rams had a good chance in the 18th minute as Jamie Hanson's corner fell to Will Hughes on the edge of the box, but the England Under-21s man blasted the ball over.

Alex Neil's charges were soon back on the front foot though, Jerome getting in behind the visitors' defence on the half-hour mark before poking the ball wide.

It wouldn't be long before the Derby backline would crumble, as a slick team move down the left flank was finished off by the former Birmingham City and Stoke City striker, who tapped home to give the hosts the lead.

Norwich continued their good work well into the second half, with Steven Whittaker volleying wide five minutes after the restart and Jerome heading wide under pressure.

Whittaker then nearly scrambled the ball into the net in the 55th minute, but Grant was able to get down and make the save.

A nasty clash of heads between Tettey and Hanson on the hour left the Norwegian on the floor for nearly five minutes, but luckily he was able to get up on his own.

Following the delay, Derby launched forward and saw Tom Ince line up a shot from distance, with John Ruddy saving at the second attempt.

Steve McClaren's charges made the most of the hosts losing their momentum by striking the equaliser, as Hanson's swerving corner in the 66th minute was spilled by Ruddy into the Canaries' net.

Norwich pushed forward in the latter stages in a bid to reclaim the lead, but despite late chances from Gary Hooper, Jerome and Johnson, the Rams were able to hang on for a point.
