Team News: Five changes to Newcastle United side against Sheffield Wednesday

Steve McClaren makes five changes to his side for tonight's League Cup third-round tie against Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Steve McClaren has made five changes to his Newcastle United side for tonight's League Cup third-round tie against Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

With the Magpies joint-bottom of the Premier League table and winless from their first six in the league, McClaren has rested several first-team players.

Mike Williamson and 21-year-old Jamaal Lascelles come into the defence in place of Fabrizio Coloccini and Massadio Haidara, while there are starting places for Vernon Anita and Gabriel Obertan in midfield.

Siem de Jong is handed a start up front in place of Papiss Cisse, who does not even make the squad, while Ayoze Perez and Yoan Gouffran have to settle for places on the bench.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday have made 10 changes to the side which beat Fulham for their first league win of the season at the weekend, with Tom Lees the only survivor.

Sheffield Wednesday: Wildsmith; Palmer, Loovens, Semedo, Matias; McGugan, Lees, Wiggins, Helan, Joao; Sougou
