Wesley Sneijder delighted to be Netherlands captain

Wesley Sneijder reveals his delight after being handed the Netherlands captaincy for the games against Turkey and Spain.

Wesley Sneijder has revealed his delight after being handed the Netherlands captaincy for the international break.

The 30-year-old had the armband when Louis van Gaal took charge of the squad in 2012 before seeing Robin van Persie take on the responsibility after he moved from Inter Milan to Galatasaray.

However, with both Van Persie and Arjen Robben unavailable due to injury, Sneijder will captain Guus Hiddink's side for the games against Turkey and Spain.

"This means a lot to me, it's always very special," the playmaker told Goal.com.

"I don't want to think back to the moment I lost the captain's armband. I have left that period behind me."

Sneijder has played 111 times for the Netherlands, scoring 28 goals.
