Parma stun Napoli

Antonio Cassano scores nine minutes from time to lead Parma to a 1-0 away victory over Napoli in Serie A.

Parma have registered a 1-0 victory over Napoli in Naples in Serie A.

Walter Mazzarri's side dominated proceedings in the early stages of the contest at the Stadio San Paolo, with Gonzalo Higuain and Lorenzo Insigne being denied by Antonio Mirante and shooting off-target respectively.

Mirante made another good save when he rushed off the line to close down Higuain, while at the other end Pepe Reina had to fly to turn away Marco Parolo's effort with one hand.

Visitors Parma made the brighter start to the second half as Felipe and Parolo both saw their attempts go close, but as the match developed Napoli began to regain control.

Insigne forced Mirante into a save with a long-range effort and then Marek Hamsik tested the Parma custodian with a shot from outside the box.

Then Parma sprung a surprise with nine minutes left on the clock when they went on a counter-attack.

Afriyie Acquah released Antonio Cassano and the Italian shot home with his right foot from the right side of the Napoli penalty box.

Dries Mertens was unlucky not to earn the Naples outfit a point as his free kick rattled the Parma crossbar a minute from full time.
