Preview: Millwall vs. Birmingham

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Millwall and Birmingham City.

Millwall will attempt to drag Birmingham City deeper into relegation trouble when the two sides meet in London on Tuesday evening.

The home side sit 22nd in the Championship table following Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Leeds United, but they are just five points behind 20th-place Birmingham, who have also played 37 times in the league.

The Lions have won just one of their last five in the league, meanwhile, scoring just twice during that run of matches.

However, Birmingham's problems run deeper. The former Premier League side have not secured three points in the league since beating Blackpool on February 22. That run of form has seen them slip to within five points of the bottom three.

In terms of the recent meetings between the two sides, Birmingham have won three of the last five, with the other two fixtures ending in draws. The corresponding clash last season ended in a 3-3 draw, but Birmingham were 4-0 winners on their own patch earlier this season.

The home side have no fresh injury concerns from their defeat to Leeds at the weekend and could therefore name an unchanged XI for the visit of Birmingham.

DJ Campbell is pushing for a start, however, after netting on Saturday.

Stefan Maierhofer also appeared from the bench against Leeds, but the 31-year-old is expected to miss out on a starting role once more with John Marquis continuing in attack.

Birmingham, meanwhile, are expected to continue with on-loan Manchester United forward Federico Macheda in attack. Nikola Zigic is also pushing for a start, while Lee Novak should be fit despite a slight knock in Saturday's defeat to Reading.
