Manchester United 'resume search for technical director'

Manchester United reportedly resume their search for a technical director now that the English transfer window has come to a close.

Manchester United have reportedly resumed their search for a technical director to oversee footballing operations now that that the English transfer window has closed.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who is spearheading the search, set in motion the plan to install a director soon after the 2018 transfer window, during which Jose Mourinho criticised the club for its handling of deals.

The club's failure to locate a replacement for Romelu Lukaku or sign a new midfielder over the transfer window has added to mounting frustrations among United's support over an absence of a detailed long-term recruitment strategy overseen by a directorship of specialists.

According to BBC Sport, Woodward will now restart the operation to locate a technical director to work alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on transfers.

It was claimed by club insiders back in March that, following Solskjaer's permanent appointment, the role would be installed in time for the start of the 2019-20 season, but this has not materialised.

Woodward had pinpointed former players Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher as potential candidates for the role, and the pair have been kept in the loop about timescales for an appointment.
