Liverpool are reportedly offered the chance to sign Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio, who will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio, according to a report.

The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order to become a bit-part player for Carlo Ancelotti, who prefers Rodrygo and Federico Valverde on the right-hand side of the attack.

Asensio came up with a respectable 10 goals in 31 La Liga matches during the 2021-22 season, although he only started 19 games in the top flight and was only named in the first XI twice in the Champions League.

The Spain international is also waiting for his first competitive minutes this season after being an unused substitute against Eintracht Frankfurt and Almeria in the UEFA Super Cup and La Liga respectively.

With less than a year left to run on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real are expected to sanction Asensio's permanent exit this summer before he leaves on a free in 2023.

A move to the Premier League with either Arsenal or Manchester United has been strongly mooted for Asensio, who has also been linked with Italian champions AC Milan.

Now, Mundo Deportivo - via Paisley Gates - claims that Liverpool have also been offered the chance to sign the former Mallorca youngster by his agent Jorge Mendes.

The report adds that Los Blancos are not prepared to extend Asensio's contract, but the European champions are still waiting for an official bid for Asensio's services.

Ancelotti affirmed after the victory over Almeria that Asensio would be given opportunities to play if deserved, but the Real boss did not close the door on an exit for the attacker.

"He is a Madrid player and I consider him as such. If he deserves to play, he will play. You have to remember the goals he scored and what he did last season. You have to wait until August 31 to find out what happens and what he decides," Ancelotti told reporters.

Asensio cost Real Madrid just £3.5m to sign from Mallorca in 2015, and the Spaniard has since amassed 49 goals and 24 assists in 233 appearances for the capital club in all tournaments.

Liverpool have cut down on their attacking ranks significantly this summer, with Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and Divock Origi all sealing permanent exits from the club this summer.

Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez have arrived at Anfield, but the latter is now set to serve a three-game ban for headbutting Crystal Palace's Joachim Andersen in Monday's 1-1 draw.

Klopp is also currently without Diogo Jota due to injury, as Nunez prepares to sit out Liverpool's fixtures with Manchester United, Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

The Uruguay international will return in time for his first Merseyside derby, which takes place at Everton's Goodison Park on September 3.
