Former France international Emmanuel Petit says that Zinedine Zidane is currently learning English amid the managerial links with Manchester United.

Former France international Emmanuel Petit has claimed that Zinedine Zidane is currently learning English amid suggestions that Manchester United are keen to appoint him as their next head coach.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains in his position at Old Trafford, but a recent report claimed that the Red Devils are already planning to replace the Norwegian.

Zidane is available without the need for a compensation package, having left Real Madrid earlier this year, and is believed to be considered by the English giants as a leading candidate for the role.

Petit has said that the former midfielder is currently learning to speak English but has doubted whether his fellow Frenchman will be making the move to Old Trafford.

"If you are a manager of a football club you need to speak different languages," Petit told booksmakers.co.uk. "I know Zinedine speaks different languages but I'm pretty sure English is not one of them.

"There are so many examples of wrong decisions in football – not necessarily the wrong decision about someone's ability, but about the dressing room being a right fit given all the different nationalities.

"Communication is very important, so if you do not speak the language when you arrive at a club like Manchester United, that could be a big problem.

"I've been told that he has been learning English recently, so I think he knows it's important for his career, but Zinedine being linked with Manchester United – I don't believe it, to be honest. Of course, he's a big name but he never played in the Premier League and has very little connection with it, so as I said, I don't believe it."

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is said to be viewed by Man United as their number one choice to replace Solskjaer at the helm.
