Sevilla 'reject Manchester United target Monchi's request to leave'

Sevilla reject sporting director Monchi's request to leave the club amid reported interest from Manchester United.

Sevilla have rejected a request from sporting director Monchi to leave the club amid speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.

Monchi boasts an impressive track record during his time with the Spanish outfit, helping them make more than £150m profit in the transfer market in addition to enjoying success on the field.

Reports emerged earlier today claiming that new United boss Jose Mourinho was keen to work with him, with the Red Devils thought to be considering paying a £3.8m buy-out clause.

However, Sevilla have refused Monchi's request to leave the club for personal reasons, insisting that he sees out his contract, which runs until 2020.

Monchi has been at Sevilla as a director since 2000, overseeing the most trophy-laden period in the club's history.
