Alan Hansen: 'Manchester United players are not good enough'

Alan Hansen believes that the Manchester United players are "not good enough", and questions how long David Moyes will be kept on as manager.

Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen believes that part of the blame for Manchester United's miserable season should be targeted at the players.

The Match of the Day pundit has claimed that manager David Moyes's future could be in doubt following their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

However, Hansen believes that a large part of United's demise is down to the players, whom he deems are "not good enough".

"I have never been a manager and would not condone getting rid of Moyes this season, but if United go out of the Champions League against Olympiakos on Wednesday night, and then lose against Manchester City, there will be serious doubts over whether Moyes can continue," Hansen wrote in The Telegraph.

"What he needs more than anything right now is for the players to pull him out of a big hole. I still think they are playing for him, they have not downed tools and there are none of the tell-tale signs you see when players are not performing for their manager. It is simply because they are not good enough."

After Sunday's defeat, United are now seventh in the Premier League table, 12 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
