Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign after undergoing surgery on a troublesome thigh problem.

Dean Henderson has revealed that he will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign, having undergone surgery on a troublesome thigh problem.

The Manchester United goalkeeper joined Nottingham Forest on loan last summer, and he has represented Steve Cooper's side on 20 occasions this season, keeping six clean sheets in the process.

However, Henderson has not been involved for Forest since the 2-0 victory over Leicester City in the middle of January due to a thigh injury.

Keylor Navas was signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain as a response to Henderson's injury, with the Costa Rican becoming the first choice between the sticks in the absence of the England international.

There have been recent rumours surrounding Henderson's injury, and it has now been confirmed that he will be absent for the remainder of the campaign.

"Had surgery today on an ongoing issue. I'm disappointed to miss the rest of the season but surgery went well and I will be back for pre season. I will be supporting the boys for the remainder of the season!! Let's go YOU REDS," he wrote on his official Instagram account.

Forest are currently 18th in the Premier League table, boasting 30 points from their 34 matches this season.

Cooper's side suffered a 2-1 defeat at Brentford last time out, and they are now preparing for a huge game at home to basement side Southampton on May 8.

Henderson could now have played his last game for Forest, with the goalkeeper set to return to Man United at the end of the season.

The Reds are believed to be interested in signing the stopper on a permanent basis, although they would have to avoid relegation to stand any chance of completing a deal.

Henderson is allegedly keen to leave Man United on a full-time basis this summer, with the Englishman not prepared to be a number two at the club.

David de Gea only has a deal with Man United until this summer, but the Spaniard is expected to soon sign an extension to remain as the number one for next term.

Henderson made 26 appearances for the Red Devils during the 2020-21 campaign, but he featured on just three occasions last term, with De Gea wresting the number one spot back.

The stopper's contract with the 20-time English champions is due to run until the summer of 2025.
