Barcelona could sell Frenkie de Jong in January to fund a move for Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling, according to a report.

Barcelona are reportedly considering selling Frenkie de Jong during the January transfer window in order to fund a move for Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling.

The Catalan giants are seemingly determined to bring Sterling to Camp Nou at the start of 2022 but will struggle to afford the England international due to their financial issues.

Barcelona will have to move players on in the winter window in order to make new signings, and according to The Sun, De Jong could be allowed to leave the club.

The report claims that Xavi's team would struggle to afford Sterling on loan due to his £300,000-a-week wages, but De Jong's exit would make space in the budget.

The Netherlands international has made 106 appearances for Barcelona since arriving from Ajax in 2019, contributing nine goals and 14 assists in the process.

The 24-year-old has again been an important player for the La Liga giants this term but will find himself in a battle for a starting role when Pedri returns to fitness, with Gavi emerging as a key player for the club and Sergio Busquets remaining a key figure in midfield.
