Liverpool 'step up Junior Firpo interest'

Liverpool reportedly increase their interest in signing Real Betis full-back Junior Firpo following the exit of Alberto Moreno at the end of his contract.

Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Real Betis full-back Junior Firpo.

The 22-year-old is understood to have been identified by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as a possible replacement for Alberto Moreno, who left at the end of his contract this summer.

Reports had suggested that Liverpool were reluctant to pay Firpo's €50m (£44.8m) release clause considering the presence of Andrew Robertson as the club's first-choice left-back.

However, Mucho Deporte claims that they have now increased their interest again and are currently the frontrunners for his signature.

Klopp is eager for more strength in depth at left-back following Moreno's exit and was impressed by Firpo's performances at this summer's Under-21 European Championship, where he helped Spain to the title.

Betis would reportedly demand the full £44.8m release clause unless Liverpool include Divock Origi in the deal, in which case they will accept a bid of €30m (£26.9m) plus the Belgian striker.
