Liverpool confirm that Diogo Jota has signed a new long-term contract with the club until the summer of 2027.

Liverpool have announced that Portuguese attacker Diogo Jota has signed a new long-term contract with the club until the summer of 2027.

The 25-year-old has been in prolific form since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020 and found the back of the net 15 times in the Premier League last season.

Jota's previous terms were not due to expire until the summer of 2025, but he was always expected to be rewarded for his exploits with a lucrative pay rise.

Now, Liverpool have confirmed that the former Atletico Madrid man has committed his future to the club, which he described as a "really proud" moment to liverpoolfc.com.

"Well, [I'm] really proud, I have to say. Obviously since I arrived two years ago I established myself as an important player in this team – that's what I wanted from the beginning," Jota said.

"Now, signing a new long-term deal, it's obviously from the club's perspective proof of the belief in myself as a player. For me, obviously it's really good to establish I'll be here for a while."

Jota suffered a recurrence of a previous hamstring injury during Liverpool's pre-season, and the attacker has admitted that it will still be "a few weeks" before he can return to competitive action.

"Unfortunately for me I had an upset in this pre-season because I got injured [in the] last game of the season playing with Portugal, Jota added. "So I was coming back in this pre-season, I felt it a little bit again. So it will be a few more weeks, I would say.

"When you fight for everything, like we did last year, you just want to do it again and to do it better, because it's possible. That drive is in me and I know it's in my teammates and all the staff. We have everything to fight for those titles out there."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also hailed Jota's "unbelievable" qualities after his new deal was confirmed, adding: "What Diogo has brought to this team and this club since he arrived is there for all to see, so it is really good news that he has signed a new contract.

"His qualities are obvious. He scores goals – not a bad quality – he works unbelievably hard for the team, his pressing and counter-pressing are on an unbelievable level, he can play in all of our attacking roles and he has an incredible attitude. Not a bad package. Not bad at all.

"As a striker who can play on the wing, he gives us so many options and since he came to Liverpool he has improved so much. I have said before that Diogo is the player we hoped he would be but also a little bit better, so long may this continue."

Jota has totalled 34 goals and nine assists in 85 appearances for Liverpool since joining in a £45m deal in 2020 and won the FA Cup and EFL Cup last term - his first pieces of silverware at Anfield.

The Portugal international follows the likes of Mohamed Salah, James Milner and Joe Gomez in signing a new contract with Liverpool this summer, as well as Klopp's extension until 2026.

However, Jota's injury means that he will not be involved in Saturday's Premier League opener with newly-promoted Fulham.
