Brendan Rodgers tips Steven Gerrard for Liverpool job in future

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says that it is inevitable that Steven Gerrard will become a manager and tips the Englishman to manage Liverpool in the future.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has said that he expects Steven Gerrard to become manager of Liverpool in the future.

Over the past week, Gerrard has been heavily linked with Rangers, throwing up the prospect of Rodgers and Gerrard going head to head in the Scottish Premiership next season.

Rodgers has suggested that his former captain will take his time before making a decision, but feels that it is inevitable that the ex-England international will soon make the step up in the dugout.

The Northern Irishman told talkSPORT: "Whatever direction Rangers want to go in, whether it's Graeme [Murty] or someone from the outside, of course that guy will want some assurances.

"From Stevie's perspective, I know he has always wanted to manage. He started his badges with Kolo Toure when we were all working together at Liverpool, and certainly it's something that will happen in the future.

"I'm sure one day he will go on and manage Liverpool, but it's all about timing for Stevie. If he feels this is the right opportunity I'm sure he'll look at it, but I haven't spoken to him about it."

Gerrard is currently in charge of Liverpool's Under-18s.
