Jurgen Klopp: 'Steven Gerrard is an inspiration to Liverpool players'

Jurgen Klopp hails Steven Gerrard as an inspiration to his Liverpool players as the LA Galaxy star trains with his former teammates.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that Steven Gerrard's presence at the club's Melwood training ground will serve as an inspiration to their young players.

The legendary former Liverpool captain, who ended a 17-year association with the Reds in the summer, is currently training on Merseyside following the end of the MLS campaign, and Klopp thinks that the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder should serve as an example to first-team hopefuls.

Klopp told Sky Sports News: "It's good to have him here and it is very important to us to show [young players] that if you can be like him, well, nobody can play like Steven Gerrard, but if you behave like him and you are similar to him and work like him then the door has to be open always.

"Everyone knows Steven better than me and they know that he is great to have around. He is a nice person and he is great to have around."

Liverpool travel to Newcastle United on Sunday.
