Andy Lonergan 'to remain at Leeds United after breakdown in Sunderland talks'

Leeds United and Sunderland reportedly fail to reach an agreement regarding a deal for goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, meaning that he will remain at Elland Road.

Andy Lonergan will reportedly remain at Leeds United for the rest of the season following a breakdown in talks with Sunderland on deadline day.

The 34-year-old was bound for the Stadium of Light after Whites boss Thomas Christiansen confirmed on Tuesday that a deal was close to completion.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, though, the Championship rivals could not reach an agreement regarding the terms of the deal and Lonergan will now stick around in West Yorkshire.

Felix Wiedwald is the current number one at Elland Road, but separate reports suggest that Arsenal stopper Emiliano Martinez - also linked with Celtic - had been lined up to provide some competition.

Sunderland are 23rd in the Championship table, 20 points behind 10th-placed Leeds United.
