Patrick Bamford happy to wait for chance at Leeds United

New Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford insists that he is happy to wait to be given his chance in the first team following Kemar Roofe's goalscoring start to the season.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has stated that he is happy to wait to be given his chance in the first team, having seen fellow forward Kemar Roofe make an impressive start to the season.

Bamford, who cost £7m from Middlesbrough earlier this summer, scored his first goal for his new side against Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night to help Leeds into the second round of the competition.

However, with manager Marcelo Bielsa playing a 4-1-4-1 system, Bamford has seen his opportunities limited as Roofe - who has two goals from two Championship games this season - is preferred in the lone-forward role.

"[Roofe] has had the whole of pre-season with the manager, working on his ideas. If anything, bringing in new faces ups everyone's game and that can only be good for the team," Bamford told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"He was brilliant at Derby and took his goals brilliantly. I'm really happy for him and, as long as he keeps going, the team will do well. I know that might mean I have to wait a little bit to play but I'm ready whenever."

Bamford scored 12 goals in 47 appearances for Middlesbrough last season.
