Marcelo Bielsa points out that only "five per cent of the Championship" season has been played, meaning that it is too early to consider his side promotion hopefuls.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has insisted that it is still too soon to draw any conclusions on his side's Championship promotion hopes.

The Whites have won their first two league games under the 63-year-old, doing so with a swagger in overcoming much-fancied Stoke City and Derby County sides.

Bielsa was quick to play down talk of Premier League football following the 4-1 win over Derby at the weekend, however, and he has again shot down those who believe that two games is enough to make assumptions.

"If you think that we are favourites to go up, we have only played two games so far," he told reporters ahead of Tuesday's EFL Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers. "We shouldn't trust this kind of affirmation because we've played only two games.

"Two games are not enough to make conclusions on the team. We all know that. And you know that. You ask me a question but you don't believe in it. We can't draw perspective after playing just 5% of the Championship. Less than five per cent.

"You ask me a question but I'm sure you don't share the concept that gives substance to the question because you have on one side the hope that comes from the fans and on the other side we have to make an analysis, you and me. I don't know if my answer is a good one."

Leeds are being kept off the top of the table by Middlesbrough, who have seven points after playing a game more.
