Juventus close the gap at the top to one point with a 1-0 victory over Genoa on home soil.

Juventus have moved to within one point of Serie A leaders Napoli thanks to a 1-0 victory over Genoa on home soil.

Massimiliano Allegri's side have now stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 games, with Douglas Costa's goal being enough to give the team all three points at the Juventus Stadium this evening.

The hosts did not take long to dominate proceedings as Miralem Pjanic's snap-shot from the edge of the danger area on the rebound flew over the crossbar.

A few minutes later, Sami Khedira tried a volley when the ball bounced in front of him on the corner of the box, but his attempt missed the target.

Costa was the one to make the breakthrough when Mario Mandzukic fed the ball to the winger, who fired from inside the box and into the bottom left corner.

Genoa could have been 2-0 down before the half-hour mark if it were not for goalkeeper Mattia Perin, who denied Pjanic a goal from a thumping shot.

Juventus kept pressing for the second goal, while their opponents struggled to cause much damage, particularly as a handful of the team's passes into the area were sloppy.

Towards the closing stages of the match, Genoa tried to find an equaliser via a free kick, which was taken by Darko Lazovic, who found Gianluca Lapadula in the six-yard box, but the shot at goal was blocked by the numerous bodies in the area.

Juventus were forced to defend some late efforts by the visitors, but Allegri's side were rarely troubled as they saw out the match and took him all three points.
