Report: James Vaughan to join Wigan Athletic from Huddersfield Town

Wigan Athletic are reportedly interested in signing James Vaughan from Huddersfield Town, where he has been told he can leave by manager Chris Powell.

Wigan Athletic are reportedly interested in signing Huddersfield Town striker James Vaughan before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

The 27-year-old, who joined Town from Norwich City in 2012 on loan before moving permanently a year later, currently has one year left on his contract at the West Yorkshire club.

According to the Yorkshire Post, Vaughan has been told he can leave the club and is a target for the recently-relegated Latics.

Vaughan was absent from Huddersfield's matchday squad against Queens Park Rangers yesterday, and after the game manager Chris Powell explained his decision to leave the Birmingham-born striker out.

Speaking to the club's website, Powell said: "Everyone knows about James' situation and something may be on the horizon for him, although we don't know with a few days left.

"I've spoken to James and we're fine about things moving forward; there are no problems, although he clearly feels his future is away from here.

"That's the way it is and I have to look at my squad moving forward."

Vaughan has scored 31 goals in 82 appearances for Huddersfield.
