Houston Dynamo edge past San Jose Earthquakes in MLS clash

Goals from Ricardo Clark and Will Bruin guide the Houston Dynamo to a 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in their MLS clash.

The Houston Dynamo have ended a three-game winless run in the MLS by defeating the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 in their match at Avaya Stadium.

The Dynamo took the lead in the 10th minute when Alexander Lopez raided down the left flank and whipped a cross into the box, which was headed past David Bingham by Ricardo Clark.

San Jose almost hit back when Tommy Thompson saw his effort blocked by Raul Rodriguez, but Fatai Alashe gathered the rebound inside the area, only to be denied by Tyler Deric.

The home side came within inches of finding an equaliser as Victor Bernardez picked up the ball 25 yards goal and rifled an effort towards the net, but his strike cannoned off the post and bounced clear.

In the second half, Clark almost doubled Houston's lead when he latched on to DeMarcus Beasley's low cross, and although his effort beat Bingham, Bernardez denied him with a clearance off the line.

The visitors continued to press and Brad Davis found space on the edge of the box to fire a low strike towards the bottom corner, but his effort went just past the post.

Houston sealed their win in the 81st minute as they capitalised on a mistake by Marvell Wynne, which allowed Leonel Miranda to slide the ball to Will Bruin for a tap-in into an empty net.
