Sevilla get first away win of season

Sevilla get their first away win of the calender year with a 3-1 victory at Espanyol.

Sevilla grabbed their first away win of 2013 with a 3-1 victory at Espanyol in La Liga.

The away side took the lead in the third minute when Federico Fazio rose highest from a corner to thump a header beyond the reach of Kiko Casilla.

Vitolo made it 2-0 in the 10th minute when he whipped a shot from 18 yards into the top corner as Espanyol struggled to cope with Sevilla's attack.

However, the hosts gave their fans something to cheer when Sergio Garcia reacted quickly to lift a loose ball in the box over the onrushing Beto to narrow the deficit after 34 minutes.

Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic was instrumental in the first half and almost made it 3-1 with a free kick. Minutes later he crossed for Daniel Carrico, who headed wide when well placed.

Thievy and Jhon Cordoba were introduced after the break as Espanyol pushed for an equaliser, and the latter set up Victor Sanchez in the 58th minute, but Beto made a sprawling save to deny to Spaniard.

The miss proved costly, as Carlos Bacca restored the visitors' two-goal advantage within seconds. The Colombian forward burst past two defenders and kept his composure to finish coolly.

Espanyol struggled to create any clear-cut chances to get back into the game and their frustration boiled over in the 85th minute when Sanchez was shown a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Vicente Iborra.
