Leandro Trossard breaks a Premier League record after scoring in Brighton & Hove Albion's impressive 4-1 victory against Chelsea at the Amex Stadium.

Leandro Trossard has broken a Premier League record after scoring in Brighton & Hove Albion's impressive 4-1 victory against Chelsea at the Amex Stadium this afternoon.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring in just the fifth minute when he rounded Kepa Arrizabalaga and buried his finish into the bottom corner, before own goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah put the Seagulls three goals in front at half time.

Kai Havertz pulled one back for the visitors three minutes after the break to provide Graham Potter's side with hope of a comeback, but the former Brighton boss endured a miserable day back on the South coast, with Pascal Gross adding a fourth in stoppage time to earn Roberto De Zerbi his first win as manager of the Seagulls.

Trossard has been a standout performer for Brighton so far this season and the Belgian has now taken his goal tally in the Premier League to seven in 12 appearances.

Indeed, Trossard scored Brighton's first four goals under De Zerbi before the win over Chelsea, and his opener against the Blues means that he has become the first player in Premier League history to score the first five goals under a new manager.

Former Derby Country striker Fabrizio Ravanelli – between October and November in 2001 – and Norwich City's Teemu Pukki – in August 2019 – both scored the first four goals under managers Colin Todd and Daniel Farke respectively.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Trossard said: "I'm really pleased. We knew it wouldn't be as easy in the first half as they would try to come and score a goal. I thought we did really well then finished it off at the end.

"I think the team has had a good start to the season. We played really well but needed that win. Four goals as well. Let's enjoy tonight.

"Yes of course. I had a few really good years under Graham Potter. There will be a bit of time [before chatting] after this performance but it's up to us now to celebrate it as we were the better team so need to enjoy it. Another thing to celebrate for us."

Brighton have seen their five-game winless run come to an end courtesy of a brilliant performance against Chelsea, and they have climbed up to seventh in the Premier League table, three points behind the Blues in fifth place.

Trossard and co will be looking to follow up their three points at the Amex with another victory when they travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers next weekend.
