Chelsea must reportedly 'overcome a number of hurdles' if they are to have their takeover completed by the end of the month.

A number of hurdles must reportedly be overcome if Chelsea's takeover is to be made official by the end of the month.

With a special government licence due to expire on May 31, the Premier League club want a consortium headed by Todd Boehly to be confirmed as the next incumbent after Roman Abramovich as soon as possible.

According to BBC Sport, the government may be in a position to approve the sale as early as Tuesday, something which would represent a huge boost to all involved.

However, the same report quotes a source as saying that "nothing is simple", the outlet adding that Abramovich's Portuguese passport means that the takeover must be licensed in that country as well as England.

A source said: "Everyone wants to get the deal done, but with the complicated nature of the deal and the Chelsea ownership structures, nothing is simple.

"We are working hard to assure our international partners who rightly want their own assurances on this deal and of course how the proceeds will eventually be spent.

"Time is rapidly running out, this deal has to get done by the end of Tuesday, otherwise major football deadlines may be missed and the club will be at risk."

Should a deal not be finalised by May 31, Chelsea face the risk of administration and not fulfilling the criteria required to remain in the Premier League.

On Sunday, head coach Thomas Tuchel admitted that he will aim to be decisive in the transfer market if a takeover goes through as anticipated.
