Both sides had chances to score in the first half, Federico Casarini and Mauricio Pinilla going close for the hosts, while Perparim Hetemaj narrowly missed the target for the visitors from Verona.

Then midway through the second half the Flying Donkeys broke the deadlock at Stadio Is Arenas.

Hetemaj provided a good cross from the wing that Alberto Paloschi headed home from the left side of the Cagliari six-yard box.

Chievo wrapped up the points with three minutes of normal time left on the clock when Cyril Thereau scored from a direct free kick.
