Preview: Bristol City vs. Luton Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Championship clash between Bristol City and Luton Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bristol City and Luton Town square off at Ashton Gate on Wednesday evening with both clubs sitting in mid-table of the Championship.

Both sides earned draws at the weekend, Bristol City being held at home by Preston North End and Luton battling back to gain a point at Blackburn Rovers.

On the back of their victory at Cardiff City before the international break, Robins boss Nigel Pearson would have expected his Bristol City side to build on that result.

However, the wait for their next success at Ashton Gate was extended to 13 matches as Preston earned a deserved goalless draw.

There were positives to take from the result with Bristol City going successive matches in the Championship without defeat for the first time since the middle of April.

Nevertheless, Pearson will view the contest as one which his team need to be winning if they want to be regarded as contenders for a playoff spot.

While Pearson and Bristol City were left disappointed with collecting a point at the weekend, the same cannot be said of Luton Town boss Nathan Jones.

The Hatters were well on their way to defeat at Blackburn when they trailed 2-0 heading into the closing quarter of the contest at Ewood Park.

A double from Luke Berry ultimately salvaged a point for Luton, his second goal in the seventh minute of added-on time instigating wild celebrations from the visitors.

Despite seeing their winless streak in the second tier extended to three matches, Jones will feel that the club should be looking upwards rather than contemplating any kind of a relegation battle.

That said, Luton now possess the joint third-worst defensive record in the Championship, highlighting that improvements will need to be made at the back over the coming weeks.

Team News

Pearson will give consideration to freshening up his Bristol City XI, with a number of players in contention for a recall.

Antoine Semenyo may return on the right flank, while Jay Dasilva is an option after left-back after making an appearance off the substitutes' bench against Preston.

Han-Noah Massengo or Tyreeq Bakinson could be preferred to either Matty James or Andy King in the centre of the pitch.

Jones will also make alterations to his Luton side, with Berry likely to take the place of the injured Allan Campbell.

Henri Lansbury could also feature for the Hatters, with striker Elijah Adebayo an option among the replacements if he has recovered from illness.

Bristol City possible starting lineup:
Bentley; Vyner, Kalas, Atkinson, Dasilva; Semenyo, King, James, Pring; Weimann, Martin

Luton Town possible starting lineup:
Sluga; Bree, Lockyer, Bradley, Naismith; Mpanzu, Osho, Berry; Cornick, Jerome, Gomes

We say: Bristol City 1-1 Luton Town

Given their respective results at the weekend, we expect both managers to push hard for all three points on Wednesday evening. Nevertheless, neither team are scoring goals with any regularity, leaving us to predict a low-scoring draw.
