Brighton & Hove Albion confirm that defender Uwe Hunemeier will leave the club in the summer in order to sign for SC Paderborn.

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Uwe Hunemeier has decided to sign a deal with SC Paderborn.

Earlier this week, Queens Park Rangers were linked with a summer approach for the centre-back, who has only featured for 17 minutes in the Premier League this season.

However, the Seagulls have now revealed that Hunemeier has opted to return to his former club when his contract expires in the summer.

Manager Chris Hughton told the club's official website: "Uwe has been an outstanding player and professional for this club since the day he arrived.

"While we're very sorry that he will leave us this summer, we completely understand his desire to play regularly. Fans will know about his performances on the pitch, but what they may not be aware of is his consummate professionalism in training and his lifestyle."

Since his arrival in 2015, Hunemeier has made a total of 36 appearances in all competitions.
