Former France and Bordeaux goalkeeper Dominique Dropsy has died at the age of 63.

Dropsy had been suffering with leukaemia since 2011 and Bordeaux confirmed earlier today that he had succumbed to the illness.

Dropsy started his career with Valenciennes in 1972 before joining Strasbourg and winning the Ligue 2 and Ligue 1 titles with them.

He joined Bordeaux in 1984 and won two more top-flight titles and a pair of Coupe de France. He finished his career with 596 Ligue 1 appearances, a record which has since been surpassed by fellow keepers Jean-Luc Ettori and Mickael Landreau.

Internationally, Dropsy won 17 caps for France, including one at the 1978 World Cup. Dropsy had recently been working as a goalkeeper coach with Bordeaux.
