Steve Thompson: 'We showed character in Wigan Athletic win'

Blackpool assistant manager Steve Thompson feels that his side showed plenty of character to overcome the absence of Paul Ince in their win over Wigan Athletic.

Blackpool assistant manager Steve Thompson believes that his side showed character in their 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic.

Thompson led the Tangerines in the absence of manager Paul Ince, who served the first game of his five-match stadium ban, but it did not affect his side as they ran out winner thanks to Thomas Ince's first-half penalty.

"The lads proved their worth and they showed what characters they are," Thompson told Sky Sports News. "We'd done the hard work on Friday - we'd gone through how they play and the video analysis - but it's not ideal when your manager isn't here.

"It was a very good advert for the Championship. It could've gone either way. They hit the woodwork and we could've sealed it late on.

"We've watched the penalty decision again and the referee has called it right. It was a penalty and it was a good decision."

Blackpool moved up to fifth in the Championship with the victory.
