Barcelona team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Rayo Vallecano

Sports Mole rounds up all of Barcelona's injury and suspension news ahead of their Copa del Rey clash with Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday evening.

Barcelona will be aiming to take another step towards Copa del Rey glory when they take on second tier side Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday evening.

Ronald Koeman's men needed extra time to claim a 2-0 victory over Cornella in the third round, with Ousmane Dembele and Martin Braithwaite netting after a goalless stalemate in normal time.

La Blaugrana had no such problems overcoming Elche in 90 minutes at the weekend, though, with Frenkie de Jong and Riqui Puig netting in that top-flight win for third-placed Barca.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's game.

Sergino Dest was fit enough to make the bench against Elche, but he is still struggling with a thigh problem and has been ruled out of this match.

Teenage protege Ansu Fati continues to recover from the serious knee injury he sustained in November, and there is optimism that the attacker could be back in March.

Possible return date: Unknown

Experienced centre-back Gerard Pique suffered a serious knee injury against Atletico Madrid back on November 21, and he will remain in the treatment room for some time.

Sergi Roberto

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: January 31 (vs. Athletic Bilbao)

Having recently recovered from a bout of coronavirus, Sergi Roberto has stepped up his recovery from a muscular problem and is now back in training with the team. The right-back is not expected to be given the green light to line up this week, but there is a slim chance he could be available to face Athletic Bilbao at the weekend.

Philippe Coutinho

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Philippe Coutinho completes a quartet of long-term absentees for Barcelona as he nurses the knee injury he picked up last month. The attacker has since undergone successful surgery and will hope to be back before the end of March.

BARCELONA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Lionel Messi has served a two-match suspension following his red card against Athletic Bilbao in the Super Cup, and the talisman's return means that Barca have no players banned for this match.
