Experienced Portuguese midfielder Tiago signs a new one-year contract with Champions League finalists Atletico Madrid.

Experienced midfielder Tiago has signed a new one-year contract with Atletico Madrid.

The Portuguese international missed the majority of the season with a broken leg, but did return for his team's final La Liga match of the campaign at home to Celta Vigo.

The 35-year-old's existing deal had been due to expire next month, but Atletico have how extended his contract by another 12 months.

"His continuity is good news. He is a player that gives us a lot of experience on and off the field, which makes him well-liked by his teammates and the fans. His seniority is vital to our team and he is a fundamental pillar of the group," Atletico sporting director Jose Luis Caminero said in a statement.

Tiago joined Atletico from Juventus in 2011.
