Diego Simeone pleased with Atletico Madrid performance in draw with Juventus

Diego Simeone admits that he was pleased with Atletico Madrid's display in the goalless draw with Juventus.

Diego Simeone has declared himself pleased after Atletico Madrid battled to top spot in Group A with a goalless draw against Juventus in the Champions League.

A tight contest produced very few clear chances for either side, but Simeone elected to remain positive when asked to reflect on the performance which saw his side edge out the Serie A champions at the top of the group.

"We played the game we needed to play in order to finish top," the Atletico boss told Sky Sport Italia. "It was a very tight first half with two important scoring opportunities and Juve created a few dangers down the right.

"We expected it to be tough, as Juve are a strong side with many champions and can certainly go forward.

"We are happy, as for the second year running, we topped our group, and for Atletico Madrid, that means a lot in the Champions League."

Atletico return to action in La Liga against Villarreal on Sunday.
