Aston Villa's Jordan Ayew apologises for getting sent off against West Ham

Aston Villa forward Jordan Ayew apologises for getting sent off in Tuesday's 2-0 defeat to West Ham United.

Aston Villa forward Jordan Ayew has apologised for getting sent off in Tuesday night's game against West Ham United.

The 24-year-old was issued with a straight red card in the 16th minute of the match for elbowing Aaron Cresswell.

Villa, who are languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, went on to suffer a 2-0 defeat, their seventh league loss of the season.

On Wednesday, Ayew apologised for his action on Instagram. He wrote: "Looking back at my impulsive actions last night I sincerely apologise to the supporters of Aston Villa, my teammates, AVFC staff and my coach.

"I take full responsibility for my actions and I don't wish to dwell on my mistake but rather look forward to playing again to prove myself to be true to claret and blue as I have done from the moment I joined AVFC and I do not intend to slow down now.

"To my fans and everyone I offended, I ask that you join me in moving on from this unfortunate situation as I continue to focus on my career and the success of the team. We fight till the end. Up The Villa! Jordan."

The Midlands outfit are 10 points from safety.
