Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole rounds up all of Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with Southampton.

Out-of-form Arsenal find themselves in growing need of an elusive victory on Wednesday when they welcome high-flying Southampton to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have lost seven of their last 10 Premier League games, including four in a row at home, to find themselves 15th in the table, most recently going down 1-0 at home to Burnley on Sunday.

The pressure has begun to build on manager Mikel Arteta as a result, and more dropped points on Wednesday could nudge the Spaniard closer to the exit door just months after he steered the club to FA Cup glory.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Gabriel Martinelli

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Southampton)

Gabriel Martinelli's last Arsenal outing came all the way back in March, since when he has been working his way back from a serious knee injury. The Brazilian came through a youth-team game unscathed earlier this month and will now focus on rebuilding his fitness ahead of his first-team return.

Thomas Partey

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Thomas Partey's quick return from injury in the recent North London derby proved to be a brief one, and he is once again expected to miss this match as he recovers from his latest muscle problem.

Sead Kolasinac

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Unknown
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Southampton)

Sead Kolasinac only has one Premier League appearance to his name this season, and he is unlikely to add to that tally in midweek due to an unspecified injury.

David Luiz

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Head
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Southampton)

David Luiz missed a fourth straight game at the weekend and has not featured since his clash of heads with Raul Jimenez last month. The Brazilian could be back in contention for this one, although reports have suggested that his relationship with manager Arteta has now broken down.

Reiss Nelson

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Head
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Southampton)

Reiss Nelson was involved in a clash of heads in training last week and has missed the last two games as a result, but he could be back in contention for this one.

ARSENAL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Granit Xhaka

Return date: December 26 (vs. Chelsea)

Nicolas Pepe is now available again after serving his own three-match ban, but Granit Xhaka has replaced him in the suspension stakes following his red card for grabbing the neck of Ashley Westwood during the defeat to Burnley. The former skipper will now miss matches against Southampton, Everton and Manchester City.

Hector Bellerin

Return date: December 19 (vs. Everton)

Hector Bellerin is also absent for this match after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last time out, although that will only keep him out of one game.
