AC Milan were allegedly prepared to sack boss Marco Giampaolo when trailing Genoa at half time of Saturday's Serie A fixture.

AC Milan reportedly considered sacking manager Marco Giampaolo at half time of their Serie A fixture with Genoa on Saturday.

Despite only being handed the reins at San Siro in the summer, Giampaolo finds himself under pressure after a poor start to the new campaign.

At one stage at the weekend, it appeared that a fifth league defeat would be recorded as Milan trailed Genoa at the midway point, only for the visitors to fight back to register a 2-1 victory.

However, despite having now earned nine points from seven matches, SempreMilan.com claims that Giampaolo came close to losing his job during the contest at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The report suggests that technical director Paolo Maldini made a phone call to instigate the departure of Giampaolo, before goals from Theo Hernandez and Franck Kessie earned the former Sampdoria man a reprieve.

Milan are next in action when they host Lecce after the international break.
