Tomas Berdych too strong for Kyle Edmund at Qatar Open

British number three Kyle Edmund is out of the Qatar Open after suffering a quarter-final defeat to Tomas Berdych.

Kyle Edmund has suffered a straight-sets defeat to Tomas Berdych in the Qatar Open quarter-finals.

The British number three, who turns 21 on Friday, has enjoyed the most significant week of his career in Doha after reaching the last eight of an ATP Tour event for the first time.

However, Edmund's run came to an abrupt halt as Berdych broke serve three times on the way to a 6-3 6-2 triumph, which sets up a semi-final clash with Novak Djokovic.

Edmund saw four break-point chances come and go against the world number six, but despite the setback, he will move into the top 90 in the world rankings for the first time when the standings are updated on Monday.
