Tomas Berdych pleased to overcome first test in Melbourne

Tomas Berdych reveals that he was pleased with his display in a straight-sets triumph over Alejandro Falla on the opening day of the Australian Open.

Tomas Berdych has admitted that he was pleased with his performance after recording a straight-sets win over Alejandro Falla in the first round of the Australian Open.

Falla made life difficult for the seventh seed, who showed glimpses of his best form in a 6-3 7-6 6-3 triumph, and he was quick to reveal his delight at overcoming the challenge on the opening day in Melbourne.

"I think it was a good test for me for the first round. I'm glad to handle it the way I did. You know, even I drop some games of my serve, then I was able to find it right away back, you know, bring the breaks up again, winning the tiebreak," the 2014 semi-finalist told reporters.

"So, yeah, I think for the occasion and the circumstances, it was a very good match today."

Berdych will face either Jurgen Melzer or Victor Estrella Burgos in round two.
