Jeremy Guscott: 'England can use Wales defeat as inspiration'

Former England centre Jeremy Guscott says that the Red Rose have to use their defeat to Wales as inspiration for their must-win game against Australia.

Jeremy Guscott has insisted that England have to use their defeat to Wales as a driving force to guide them to victory over Australia.

The Red Rose spurned a 10-point lead against Warren Gatland's men, who came back at Twickenham to record a 28-25 win to leave the host nation perilously close to a group-stage exit.

However, Guscott believes that England can use their defeat as inspiration to defeat the Wallabies to get their campaign on track.

The former centre told BBC Sport: "England need to use their defeat by Wales to their advantage. It was a game against their fiercest rivals that they dominated at times and lost on very small margins. They could easily have won.

"England have to feel the hurt and pain from that loss, have it simmering in the background, but keep it under control. It cannot envelop you.

"The knockout stages have come a week or two early for England, but they have to live in the here and now."

England face Australia at Twickenham later today.
