Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly made a last-minute attempt to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side had been in the market for a new striker, central midfielder and left-back in the final month of the transfer window but have been frustrated on all three counts and were left stunned this afternoon when PSV Eindhoven pulled the plug on a £10m deal for striker Jurgen Locadia.

The Midlands outfit have also been pursuing deals for Newcastle United outcast Jack Colback and Manchester United youngster Scott McTominay, but both deals are also thought to have fallen through in the final throes of deadline day.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves have now made a late attempt to sign Forshaw, 25, who is out of favour at the Riverside and sits behind the likes of Adam Clayton, Jonny Howson and Grant Leadbitter in the pecking order.

The Everton academy has extensive experience in the second and third tiers of English football, having also previously featured for Wigan Athletic and Brentford.
