Chris McCann: 'Wigan Athletic must keep momentum going'

Wigan Athletic midfielder Chris McCann urges his teammates to maintain their unbeaten run this weekend when taking on Bury at Gigg Lane.

Chris McCann has talked up the importance of continuing to build momentum as Wigan Athletic prepare to take on Bury in the FA Cup.

The 2013 winners begin their cup campaign by making the short trip to Gigg Lane, in what will be the third meeting between the pair already this season.

Wigan have yet to come out on top in either of those previous encounters, although on the back of a positive run of form, McCann is confident that his side can push on during the current League One hiatus.

Speaking to the club's official website, the midfielder said: "The FA Cup is no kick about, we want to win every single game we play and Saturday will be no different. We're doing well at the moment, we're on a fantastic run of unbeaten games.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves last Saturday to get the win in the end. There's a gap of two weeks between league games so we wanted to sign off on a high.

"Winning on Saturday gives us that momentum to go out and enjoy the cup game, but at the same time we've got to keep the run going so that we arrive back in League One with some positive results."

Wigan, who are currently fifth in the third-tier standings, return to league action in eight days' time when facing Rochdale.
