David Moyes is reportedly facing the sack if his West Ham United side lose at home against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

David Moyes is reportedly facing the sack if his West Ham United side lose at home against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The 59-year-old arrived at the London Stadium for his second spell in charge in December 2019, replacing Manuel Pellegrini, and successfully steered the Hammers away from the relegation zone.

Moyes then enjoyed a hugely successful campaign the following season, with West Ham finishing in sixth place – above London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal – and qualifying for the Europa League.

West Ham continued to transform under the tutelage of Moyes and progressed all the way to the Europa League semi-finals last season as well as finish the Premier League campaign in a respectable seventh place.

Moyes was then backed in the transfer market last summer, spending in excess of £150m on eight new players including the club-record signing of Lucas Paqueta, with West Ham bidding to establish themselves as a club regularly competing for the European places.

However, the Hammers have endured a disappointing 2022-23 campaign in the Premier League, winning four, drawing three and losing 12 of their 19 matches and have been dragged into the relegation zone, sitting just above the foot of the table only by goal difference.

Moyes is now under immense pressure to turn West Ham's fortunes around and there is a growing feeling from the supporters that the time has come for a change in the dugout.

West Ham have picked up just one point from their last seven Premier League games and they are now preparing for an important fixture against fellow strugglers Everton, with Toffees boss Frank Lampard also under increased pressure ahead of Saturday's clash at the London Stadium.

According to The Telegraph, West Ham are likely to relieve Moyes of his duties if they suffer defeat on home soil against Everton.

The report adds that West Ham's hierarchy would ideally like to see Moyes turn the club's form around, but another loss this weekend could be the final nail in the Scotsman's coffin.

In addition, West Ham are said to have drawn up a list of short-term replacement who they would consider appointing on a deal until the end of the season.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Spurs head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, ex-Everton and Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez and former Burnley boss Sean Dyche are all believed to be on West Ham's radar.

Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan is said to have "impressed" the Hammers since replacing Steve Bruce in October after helping the Baggies climb from a relegation scrap into playoff contention in the Championship.

Should Moyes be sacked this weekend, first-team coach Kevin Nolan could be placed in temporary change while West Ham search for a successor, although the 40-year-old is believed to be in the running for the vacant managerial position at League One side Portsmouth.
