Harry Kane: "I could have done better at the World Cup"

England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane concedes that he "could have done better at the World Cup", despite winning the Golden Boot in Russia.

Harry Kane has admitted that he feels he could have performed better for England at the World Cup, despite finishing as the competition's top scorer.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker netted six times for the Three Lions in Russia to finish ahead of Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe in the Golden Boot race.

All six of Kane's goals came in his first three outings, however, and he failed to make much of an impact in his next three games as England finished fourth.

Speaking ahead of his return to action with the national side on Saturday evening, with Spain the opposition at Wembley Stadium, Kane concedes that he is not entirely happy with how his World Cup campaign went.

"I think I could have done better at the World Cup if I'm perfectly honest," he told reporters. "It was great, I scored some good goals and important goals but there was stuff I could have done better as well...certain finishes, certain movements.

"To win the Golden Boot at the World Cup and feel like I could have done better is exciting. There's a lot of improvement [to go] and I'm at a high level already."

At club level, Kane ended his August hoodoo by netting in Tottenham's wins over Fulham and Manchester United, but there have been suggestions that he may be carrying a slight knock.

"People are looking as if I've changed my game but I've scored the same number as after four games last season," he added. "Maybe I've become a better finisher.

"Whether it's 10 shots or 28 shots, I've scored the same number. And I've scored in two games rather than one. There are always little things that people pick out of your game but I feel good, I feel sharp. That's what important."

Kane will wear a specially commissioned pair of golden boots against Spain to mark his World Cup achievement.
