Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness says that it would be "awesome" if the German champions made a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane this summer.

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has claimed that the signing of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane would be "awesome" for the German champions.

Speculation surrounding Kane's future is starting to heat up once more, with the England captain yet to pen a contract extension beyond the end of next season.

Unless Spurs can produce a miracle and storm to the Premier League title in the final few weeks of the season, Kane will turn 30 this summer without having won a major trophy.

Antonio Conte's side have suffered two knockout eliminations this month, being dumped out of the FA Cup in the fifth round by Sheffield United and losing to AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Inconsistent Premier League form also has Tottenham at risk of dropping out of the top four, and Spurs have made little headway in trying to agree a new contract with Kane.

The 29-year-old tried and failed to force an exit in 2021, with Manchester City failing to entice Daniel Levy with two nine-figure bids, but the Spurs chairman is at risk of losing Kane for nothing in 2024.

Manchester United, who were also linked with Kane two years ago, are believed to have made contact over a move for Kane, who could succeed Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford for the 2023-24 season.

However, with Spurs reportedly reluctant to sell to a direct Premier League rival, Bayern could emerge as the frontrunners to sign the England captain as they attempt to fill the Robert Lewandowski-sized void.

Despite agreeing a new contract with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting until 2024, Bayern are still thought to be pressing ahead with plans to sign Kane, and Hoeness recently told Sky Deutschland that he would approve of such a move.

"There's nothing over my desk. I'm one of nine members of the supervisory board who have a say in the executive committee when it comes to large expenses of over 25 million euros, And I've expressed my personal private opinion here," Hoeness said.

"I can imagine that one day a player would go to FC Bayern is coming, which can cost around 100m, but I gave my opinion specifically on the Kane case, he's almost 30 years old and last year Tottenham rejected Manchester City's 160m offer, so I said in this case, it would be awesome if FC Bayern approached such a transfer.

"I would give my private opinion. I'm one of nine and if the other eight say he's going to be bought, then he's going to be bought. That's how it is in a democracy."

Kane, who surpassed Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham's highest goalscorer of all time last month, now sits on 268 goals and 63 assists from 423 games for Spurs, including 20 goals and four assists from 37 games this season.

The 80-cap England international - who has 53 goals for his country - is not the only senior Spurs member facing an increasingly uncertain future, as head coach Conte is now widely expected to depart at the end of his contract.

Spurs have supposedly drawn up a five-man shortlist of replacements for the Italian, who will remain in charge for Saturday's visit of Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
