Harry Kane laments missed opportunity to pile pressure on top two

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane admits that his side wasted "a big opportunity" to drag themselves right into Premier League title contention with their defeat to Burnley.

Harry Kane has said that his return from injury means little following Tottenham Hotspur's surprise 2-1 away defeat to Burnley.

The England international was restored to the starting lineup at Turf Moor after spending six weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Kane marked his comeback with a goal to cancel out Chris Wood's opener, but Ashley Barnes struck in the final 10 minutes to leave Tottenham five points behind Manchester City and Liverpool, with the latter playing their game in hand at Manchester United on Sunday.

Spurs striker Kane is disappointed that Tottenham failed to pile the pressure on the top two, telling Sky Sports News: "It was a big opportunity for us to get another three points and really push up and see what happens over the weekend.

"But we didn't take that advantage. We're disappointed, it hurts now, but all we can do is move on quickly.

"It's great to be playing again. You never like to be injured and of course it's nice to get a goal, but it doesn't really matter if you don't win the game.

"It's down to all of us [to win]. We need everyone involved - scoring, assists, clean sheets. We're doing everything we can to push on for the rest of the season."

Kane is now joint-third in the Premier League scoring charts, level with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but two behind Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero.
