Real Madrid 'to revive interest in Mauricio Pochettino'

Real Madrid are reportedly planning to make another attempt to prise Mauricio Pochettino away from Tottenham Hotspur amid speculation over Julen Lopetegui's future.

Real Madrid are reportedly planning to revive their interest in Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as they consider alternatives to current boss Julen Lopetegui.

Lopetegui only took over at the Bernabeu over the summer, but a poor start to the season has seen his position already come under intense scrutiny.

Madrid went five games without a win in all competitions prior to Tuesday's night's Champions League triumph over Viktoria Plzen, including the club's longest-ever goal drought.

Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is currently the favourite to succeed Lopetegui, but the Daily Mail reports that the Madrid hierarchy are still interested in hiring Pochettino.

The European champions were understood to be keen on the Argentine as a replacement for Zinedine Zidane during the summer before Pochettino committed his future to Spurs by signing a new five-year deal.

Los Blancos are now reportedly planning to double check whether there is any chance of prising Pochettino away from North London with a £40m offer.

Madrid currently sit seventh in La Liga ahead of this weekend's Clasico with defending champions Barcelona.
