Giovanni Sio scores late Rennes equaliser at Gazelec Ajaccio

Rennes score a late equaliser to deny Gazelec Ajaccio the win at the Stade Ange-Casanova.

Rennes scored a late equaliser to deny Gazelec Ajaccio the win at the Stade Ange-Casanova this evening.

Abdoulaye Doucoure had an attempt saved for Rennes within the opening 15 minutes, while Kader Mangane and Issiar Dia shot wide of the post for the home side in a relatively quiet first half.

However, it was Gazelec Ajaccio who took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Larbi scored with a low free kick to give the Ligue 1 newcomers the lead.

Romain Danze had an attempt saved for the visitors shortly into the second half, while Jacques Zoua had two good opportunities to double Ajaccio's lead only to fire wide.

Aston Villa loanee Yacouba Sylla had a long-range shot stopped by Abdoulaye Diallo as Rennes continued to search for an equaliser, but Ajaccio equalled their attempts with shots from Zoua, Giovanni Sio and Kamil Grosicki all saved by Clement Maury, who was determined to keep his clean sheet.

Maury failed to keep up his guard, however, and conceded late in the 89th minute to a Sio finish from inside the box as Ajaccio remain without a win this season.
