Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos denies that players should take pay cut

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos feels that players should not be forced to take a pay cut, instead giving them the chance to 'do the right thing' with their wages.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has suggested that he would rather decide how to make a donation to help fight the coronavirus outbreak over being told to take a pay cut.

In recent weeks, the first-team squads at Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have opted to have their salaries reduced by 70% in order to help with cash flow.

However, Kroos would prefer to receive his wages in full in order 'to do the right thing' - an indication that he wants to make his own contribution.

The German told the SWR Sport Podcast: "Waiving salary is like a donation in vain, or to the club. It should be an option for everyone to consider. I think it's even better to get the full salary and then do the right thing with it.

"I don't think it's necessary here. The other thing is the question of what I do with all the money I get. We must all help where help is needed. And there are a lot of places where help is needed right now."

At the very earliest, La Liga will not restart until May 28.
