Top 10 Real Madrid players of all time - #6

Sports Mole's countdown of the top 10 Real Madrid players of all time continues with number six - Ferenc Puskas.

Ferenc Puskas (1958-1966)

Ferenc Puskas is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, and his move to Real Madrid in 1958 saw the reputation of both him and the club soar to new heights.

Already renowned around the world having been part of Hungary's Mighty Magyars throughout the 1950s, 'The Galloping Major' joined Madrid at the age of 31 having been without a permanent club for three years following his refusal to return to Hungary due to a revolution taking place in the country.

Real Madrid were also already the dominant force in club football having won the first three European Cups, but Puskas immediately formed a devastating partnership with Alfredo Di Stefano to help Madrid take that tally to five European Cups on the bounce - a feat which has still not been matched.

Puskas also helped Los Blancos to five successive La Liga titles from 1960 to 1965 and, at the age of 39, lifted his third European Cup crown during his final season in 1965-66.

The Hungarian talisman ended his Real Madrid career with 242 goals in just 262 games for the club, while also winning four Pichichi trophies and finishing second in the 1960 Ballon d'Or voting.
