Top 10 Real Madrid players of all time - #4

Sports Mole's countdown of the top 10 Real Madrid players of all time continues with number four - Raul.

Real Madrid's highest appearance-maker and, until Cristiano Ronaldo came along, their highest goalscorer of all time too, Raul is considered one of the most important players in the club's history.

Only four men have scored more than him in La Liga, while only two - Ronaldo and Lionel Messi - have found the back of the net more often in the Champions League, becoming the only player to have been named the UEFA Club Forward of the Year three times - in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

After joining from city rivals Atletico Madrid as a youth player in 1992, Raul broke into the first team as a teenager just two years later and went on to make 741 appearances for the club, scoring 323 goals.

A two-time Pichichi Trophy winner and runner-up in the 2001 Ballon d'Or voting, 'El Capitan' eventually left Madrid in 2010 to join Schalke 04 having won 16 trophies in the Spanish capital.

That silverware haul includes six La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns, with Raul maintaining his importance to the team even after the influx of 'Galacticos' at the start of the century.
